Craven House Report 1958

They say that it is harder to stay at the top than to get there in the first place. Well, being holders of the Rugby, Cricket, Swimming and Athletic cups, we certainly began the year with a difficult task, but I am pleased to report that the members of this House throughout the year have pulled their weight and done all required of them.
Rugby. Yet another method was adopted with respect to the rugger competition. This year we held a league playing in all a total of eight games.
We lacked weight this year, but the fighting spirit shown by all enabled us to retain the cup for the third year running.
Craven, 58 ; Lancaster, 48; York, 42.
Marathon. We went all out this year to capture that one elusive cup from York, the holders. But despite our efforts finished in second place to Lancaster.
The juniors ran a very good race, but just couldn't make it. Caul and Wood ii, our best individuals kept up with the leaders and finished in the first ten.
In the Middle, Lancaster were too powerful; Rogers and Blakey put up a good show.
In the seniors we were the first team home but, did not win the team event. Hay surprised everyone by finishing in third place and Riley repeated his last year's performance.

Boxing. The standard of boxing this year, as always, was very high. Our team was composed of Caul, Job, Kenyon, Bate, Brunyate, Catton, Wood ii, Barrett, Rogers, Wilkinson.
The best loser's cup, which was held by Bate of Craven, went to Watmough, of Lancaster, who gave Kenyon a fine tussle.

Swimming, Cricket and Athletics. These events are to be held at a later date. We are looking forward to the chance to defend our titles in all three sports.
Now finally, as this is my last house report, I wish to say to our house members, thanks for being such a wonderful lot-you have given not only me but the other Cravenites leaving, some lasting memories.
Next term you will have a new House Captain, David Hay; I hope you will continue to give him the good service you have so freely given in the past and I wish you all, the best for the future.
J. Mayor (House Captain)
