Lancaster House Report
1956 |
|
Lancaster during the winter term of 1955, seemed to be the
weakest house of all. But the first Inter-House match revealed
that this house had recovered the spirit which it had lost
during the previous years, At the beginning of the year,
Lancaster was being let down by a few individuals who were
losing house points at the rate of 20 per week. But this was
soon rectified and the same boys who had lost so many
house-points, soon began to gain them in large numbers. On the
whole, Lancaster has been a very satisfactory house throughout
the year.

SPORTS EVENTS. |
Rugby. Our team was lacking in skill and speed but
courage and sportsmanship made up for it. In the match against
Craven, a magnificent show was put up by Brothwell and
Broomfield. Unfortunately, we lost both matches.
|
Running. During the winter term, three races up to the
top of Sharphaw and back took place. Greenep, D. Walling and
Broomfield ran in the first race. They all ran magnificently
and came in 3rd, 4th and 5th bringing Lancaster to the 2nd
place. In the Middle School and the Juniors, Greenep, Hanson,
Holmes and Masters won the race for the House. Masters,
finishing for the team, was back at least five minutes before
any of the other houses.
|
Marathon. In this event, Lancasters Middle School tearn
came in first. In the Seniors, Broomfield and Brothwell did
very well coming in 4th and 7th. In the Juniors, an excellent
race was run by Blakey of Craven. Everyone in our house who
ran in the marathon did their best and that was all that was
expected.
|
Boxing. This was a great victory for Lancaster. 5
fights out of 8 were won by our boxers who put up a terrific
display of courage. Khan, Greenep, Hanson and Simon
Rowan-Robinson all fought bravely. Knaggs of York was a very
sporting loser to Greenep and Sim, who was beaten by Khan,
received the cup for the best loser which he most certainly
deserved.
|
Football. Everyone was surprised by the show that the
junior and the Middle School of our house put up. They, like
the seniors, beat York but lost to Craven who very much
deserved to win.
|
Sports Day. This was the main event of the year in
which Lancaster House again showed their spirit and
sportsmanship. Although Craven was by far ahead in points, our
house didn't give up trying, and, as time went on, the gap
between Lancaster and Craven was shortening. In the Seniors,
Mussa, Brothwell and Broomfield put up a terrific show that
made the house proud. The juniors and the middle school
displayed their spirit and sportsmanship all through the day,
but unfortunately Lancaster didn't quite make it and the cup
was won by Craven.
|
|
Before finishing off, on behalf of all the members of
Lancaster House, I wish to congratualte Craven on their
magnificent performances and most heartily York, who although
they had obviously lost, never gave up hope in trying, all
through the year. |
