Lancaster House Report
1958 |
|
Our house has done extremely well this year. We have won the
Marathon Cup, the Boxing Competition, and are on our way to
winning the House Cup. The behaviour of all members has been
excellent throughout the year and their spirit as good as it
has ever been.
|
Rugby. Eight house matches were played during the
Autumn and Winter terms. Although the seniors lost every
match, some heavily and others by a very narrow margin, a
great deal of experience was gained by the team. Bushell and
Schofield, two new house members, played magnificently as
forwards along with Broomfield, Wood and Thomas. The
three-quarters, mostly on the small side, could not do much
with the ball and thus it was best for the forwards to keep
the ball and push their way through-a job which they did very
well. In contrast to the Seniors, the Middle and Junior
combined team did not lose a single match. Ardern captained
the team well and along with Holmes, Pallister, Brown and
jones, scored many of the tries.
|
Boxing. The boxing house-competition was held in the
gym in the Autumn term. All the boys who took part for
Lancaster fought magnificently.
Brown beat Caul of Craven; R.R. iii beat Brunyate i of York;
Chabot beat Brunyate ii of Craven; Baker ii beat Wood of
Craven; Ardern beat Fairburn of York; Jerome beat Robinson of
York; Hanson beat Wilkinson of Craven; Pickard lost to joy of
York; Watmough lost to Kenyon of Craven; Hirst lost to Baker i
of York. Watmough put up a very good and sporting fight
against Kenyon of Craven and received the 'Best Loser's Cup.'
|
Gym Games. Our junior team of eight boys played
'hand-ball and managed to win one of their games. The Middle
School team brilliantly beat both Craven and York at
'Mat-ball.' Unfortunately the seniors did not do as well and
lost both games.
|
Marathon. On Wednesday, the 26th March, the inter-house
Cross-country race took place. The weather was not ideal but
as good as one would expect in Winter. All the boys in
Lancaster took part and ran to the best of their ability. In
the Senior race, Broomfield came in second and Wood i
surprised all by coming in fourth. This was a very good effort
by both these boys. In the Middle School Holmes came in first.
Ardern second and here as in the Seniors, Lancaster won the
team event. Coupe ran magnificently in the juniors coming in
first with a time of 9 minutes 37 secs. Here again Lancaster
won the team event and so won the Marathon Cup.
|
House-points. In the basic house points Lancaster is
ahead with 70 points to Craven and York's 59 each. We have
won the Weekly Cup many times this year and so have plenty
of second helpings and T.V. viewing. Credit should go to
Moug, RowanRobinson iii, Hitchcox and Crawley, who have
gained many valuable house points in the form order.
|
| Cricket and Swimming. The Cricker house matches have
not yet been played off. The Swimming competition is to be
held on Friday, llth July, at the Skipton Baths, and we are
all looking forward to an exciting day. |
Sports. Sports Day will be held sometime in the near
future. In the Standards, Lancaster is leading with 428 points
to Craven's 310 and York's 235.
|
During the forthcoming year, Lancaster will be a stronger
house than it has ever been during the last three or four
years. With the upcoming boys from the Middle School, we shall
have a much better rugger team and shall do considerably
better than last year.
|
Before ending the house report for this year, 1 should like to
mention on behalf of all Lancaster house members, how we have
enjoyed playing against Craven and York in all the house
competitions throughout the year.
