York House Report 1956

The record of York house this year is certainly not very brilliant as we have been surpassed by both Lancaster and Craven. Though 1 do not wish to make excuses, we have in our house three boys whose bad behaviour andc arelessness has lost us 30 house points. 1 regret to say this has happened to us during the past three terms.

SPORTS EVENTS.
Running. We have had three races up the mountain, one race for seniors and relay for both senior and Middle and juniors combined. The relay was won by the seniors. In the other senior run N. Hayat came in first but unfortunately was let down by his tearn. The middle and junior combined lost, but A. Knaggs proved himself a real trier.

Marathon. This was another exciting run. Our house came but N. Havat of our house won the race. The Middle and junior school were not a success and here again A. Knaggs ran exceptlonalls- well and won the Middle School race.

Boxing. There were many outstanding fights. R. Dawood of York House won his fight against M. H. Dawood of Craven house and put up a good show. A. Knaggs of York house lost his fight to Greenep of Lancaster house but he did not box so cleverly as his opponent. I consider the best fight of the year to have been that which took place between Sim of York house and S. R. Khan of Lancaster house. Though Sim lost he fought so bravely that he was awarded the best loser's cup.

Rugby. In Rugby Inter-House competitions York Seniors won their matches both against Lancaster and Craven. Their good tackling, good passing, all round good play deserved the victory. The team consisted of :- N. Sultan (Captain), J. Hird, N. Hayat, J. Vaughan, C. Hainsworth, F. Nanji.

I am sorry to say I cannot give a similar report of our Senior and Middle School who unfortunately in spite of some good play, lost one and drew one match.

Football. Here we have quite a lamentable tale, we lost every match. There was very much good work done in those played by Middle and Senior School and games proved quite exciting. A. Knaggs and Beckwith put up a splendid show and R. Dawood (goal-keeper) simply surpassed himself to the amazement and delight of all present.

Indoor Sports. We have had many indoor sports, handball, volleyball, table tennis, football, tennis, chess etc. in all of which I think Imay truthfully say we did "very well".

Form Orders. Here again we have not shone. Second, third and fifth forms were not satisfactory. First and Remove have done fairly well and we are very grateful to the fourth form which has helped to pull us out of the bag. B. Gilliani in IV form has kept his position of Ist throughout the year, all credit to him.

Sports Day. Here again we join the company of the "also ran". Four silver cups were won and Mrs. John Mayor kindly consented to present them. The first Victor Ludorum to her son James Mayor and N. Hayat who won it jointly for the most outstanding performances in the Senior events. Next to Anthony Knaggs for the best performance in the Middle School, to Gordon Barber of the Junior School went the third cup and the fourth one to Craven House whose members were the winners of the day. On behalf of York house I must congratulate the winners on their fine performances. Throughout the year all the house members have given their best in every way with a sporting spirit and it has been pleasing to see them accept defeat in such a way. May we have better luck next time.

House Captain N. Sultan.
