York House Report 1964

CHRISTMAS TERM.
In this first term of the School year the House got off to a good start in the inter-House activities. In the table tennis tournament, Edwards, Neal, Wynn and Henderson represented York. In this competition we managed to gain second place. On the following Sunday we were again only able to gain second place in the interhouse quiz. Robinson and Godfrey reached the finals in the Senior and Baty and Maynard in the juniors. Baty incidentally managed to score full points. Robinson won for the seniors and Maynard for the juniors. This term, as usual, the Rugby cup was competed for, and we were at a disadvantage from the start in both experience and weight. In the seniors the whole team played as though inspired, especially against Craven, but even this was not enough to beat a much stronger opposition. The junior team had a very successful season, under the able captaincy of Mark Watson. I think it is worthy of note that during the whole season they did not concede a single point.

EASTER TERM.
By having a little more determination, we were able to win the table tennis competition. In the Marathon we only managed to get two runners in the first ten, these being Edwards and Wickham. In the juniors, however, we swept the board, obtaining the first three places, and having a total of six people in the first ten. By this stage in the year we had a considerable lead in the house cup competition, and a slight lead in the Hay cup for work.

We had quite a successful final term. The cricket competition started too late to be completed, and it is to be hoped in future years the competition will be started earlier, so that games may be completed in time.

SUMMER TERM.
In Athletics we did not do as well as expected, although Edwards and Fox both put up fine performances.
In the Swimming Sports congratulations are due to Edwards, Burtinshaw and Costelloe for putting up fine performances and helping us to win the cup.

We have had a moderately good year, although not as good as I hoped. We won the swimming cup, the Hay cup for work, and the House cup.

I would like to say thank you to all members of the House for the support given throughout the year, and I hope that the house gives the next House Captain the support that I have had.

S. W. ROBINSON.
